Brief info

Sam Newton prefers to be recognized as an independent artist rather than as one of the Florida Highwaymen painters. According to The Highwaymen Trail, an organization managed by the city of Fort Pierce and the Florida Humanities Council, Sam distances himself from the group and claims he had no involvement in being included in the Florida Artist Hall of Fame. He clarifies that his brother Harold passed away before the group of painters known as the Highwaymen was formed, making it illogical to consider them as a collective. Sam simply wishes to be acknowledged as Sam Newton, or occasionally as a 'Highwayman Not.'

Sam, born in Tifton, Georgia in 1948, was part of a trio of Newton brothers - Harold and Lemuel - who are recognized as members of the Highwaymen painters. Although Harold is considered the most prominent artist among the siblings, Sam has also established a successful and enduring career as a painter, focusing on Florida's landscapes.
