Brief info

Described as "gentle, dignified, and exceptionally talented - a rare combination," according to Anthony Westbury, James Gibson is remembered today for his style and charm just as much as his artistic abilities.

Gibson, born in 1938 in Moore Haven, Florida, was the eldest of eight siblings. In the early 1940s, the family relocated to Fort Pierce, where Gibson grew up alongside Alfred Hair, one of the founders of the Outlaws. Developing a passion for painting at a young age, Gibson started by sketching characters and scenes from books. However, it was only in his later years that he left college in Tennessee and returned home to collaborate with Hair in creating and selling artwork.
