People say Curtis Arnett is really great and kind. He has been famous for a long time and he was once part of the Florida Highwaymen. He was born in a small town called Greenville, Florida in 1950 and grew up in Fort Pierce, Florida. After his family moved there in 1955.
Since he was a kid, Arnett has been really into drawing and painting. He thinks it all started when he got a watercolor set for Christmas when he was seven. He used the paints to create pictures of characters like Lois Lane and Clark Kent from the comics on cardboard and other materials he found.
Arnett was a young boy when he met Alfred Hair, the founder of the Highwaymen group. Hair was giving a painting demonstration at Arnett's school, and it was the first time Arnett saw oil paints.
At 12 years old, Arnett found a talented artist named A. E in their neighborhood. Bean Backus rode his bike to the Indian River to go fishing. He found an open studio belonging to the artist Backus and asked for help with his own painting. Backus gave him brushes, a palette knife, and some paint, and he started painting on plywood and Upson board at home.
